Diagnosis of Male Infertility

General examination

The general examination for male infertility includes the test of the male’s genitals as well as the questions regarding the medical history of the person. The doctors ask questions about the patients’ illness, medications, sexual habits, and disabilities as well.

Analysis of semen

The examination of the semen for the male infertility is an important test. For the test, the doctor might need more than one or just one semen specimen. The method to obtain the semen is by either masturbating or interrupting the intercourse and then ejaculating the semen in some clean container. The specimen will get analyzed in the lab to test the color, quality, any infections present or blood.

Hormone test

In the test, the blood test helps to determine the testosterone level and the other hormone level as well.

Transrectal Ultrasound and Doppler evaluation

The doctors use the Ultrasound or Doppler to evaluate the testis of the male. With the test, the doctors can look for the signs of the conditions like the obstruction in the ejaculatory duct and retrograde ejaculation.

Post-ejaculation urinalysis

The test determines if there is urine in your sperm. The urine in the sperm indicates that the sperm travels backward in the bladder rather than traveling out of the penis while the ejaculating.

Tests for genetic causes

The reason for the low concentration of sperm could be due to some genetic cause. With the blood test, it becomes clear if there is the presence of subtle changes in Y chromosome. The test also takes care of the diagnosis of many other inherited or congenital syndromes.
